This condition is a genetic disorder affecting keratin, the protein in the skin, hair, and nails. PC manifests as symptoms affecting the nails and skin, with the severity and onset of these symptoms varying between individuals.
Some of its most common symptoms are the thickening of abnormal growth of fingernails and toenails, and painful calluses, blisters, or fissures on the soles. It can also cause thickening or white spots on the tongue or mouth, and cysts.
As there is currently no cure for PC, management to relieve symptoms and prevent complications. Some strategies include foot care, nail care, oral hygiene, lifestyle adjustments and medical intervention.
