Natural Skin care for the Outdoor Enthusiast

Essential oils in bottles, fresh and dried flowers and herbs, and natural background of leaves

I live a life full of hard work, adventure, and the outdoors. I am a Wildlife Biologist by day, and CANhaveTODAY aficionado by night. This means I get to explore the natural world and do it all with natural ingredients, and great skin.

My Skin’s Trials and Tribulations as a Wildlife Biologist

For me, every day at work is different. One day I’ll be out monitoring moose and elk populations, and the next, fishing for rainbow trout to assess lake and fisheries health.

My summer and fall are normally comprised of fisheries-related work. This is when my team travels from lake to lake monitoring the sportfish populations to ensure they are not being overfished. With this work comes long, hot days outdoors, dry, calloused skin, and lots of pesky insects.

With the work that I do, I accepted that dry hands and stubborn insects and bites were something I had to live with. But, since trying CANhaveTODAY’s Waters Mist skin salve, this is no longer the case!

Here’s My Story

Last week I was out conducting fisheries assessments – now you may be wondering what exactly this means. In a nutshell, this involves boating around lakes, casting nets, and counting and measuring fish. These are generally long days in and on the water. I don’t know about you, but my skin gets even drier and more irritated after days of being wet and handling fish.

Aside from dry skin, being on the water has other challenges too. Like mosquitoes and flies for example. As someone with sensitive skin, I react severely to bug bites with big, red, itchy welts that last for weeks. It often even leads to long-term skin damage and scarring. This is something I’ve learned to cope with because regular bug repellents are too harsh to use directly on my sensitive skin. And with sensitive skin, comes heightened itch and irritation.

Waters Mist was recommended to me to try as a hand salve and as a bug repellent with 100% natural ingredients. Salve sure, but bug repellent? I was a bit skeptical. But, to my surprise, I survived the week with soft, smooth hands, and far fewer bug bites!

Waters Mist as a Natural Hand Salve?

Before heading out on the water I used Waters Mist salve on my hands. It absorbed quickly while leaving my hands soft and moisturized, with only a slight oily residue. Waters Mist had a very light, natural scent from the lemongrass, lavender, and cinnamon essential oils. This was very pleasant while working in a smelly boat surrounded by fish all day.

Normally by the end of a day processing fish, my hands are white from dry skin with cracks and callouses. But with Water’s Mist I had soft and supple hands all day, and I didn’t have to reapply for over 6 hours! Talk about long lasting relief!

The fun side of my work is being outdoors. However, this comes with a variety of challenges, but annoying insects are up there at the top of that list. I am often distracted by bugs around me, biting at my skin all day. This sometimes makes long days in the British Columbia wilderness pretty unbearable. So, when I heard that CANhaveTODAY’s Waters Mist skin salve also has some bug-repellent and anti-inflammatory properties, I became very interested!

I tried Waters Mist as a bug repellent, applying it to exposed areas that often experience the worst bites – my hands, arms, and neck. For the next couple hours following application there were significantly less bugs zooming around my face. And I didn’t notice being bitten very much at all!

Only a handful of insects were lucky enough to make it to my skin and take a bite, but these bites barely had any reaction on my skin! There was very little redness and swelling, and after reapplying Waters Mist over top of these bites at the end of the day, I had barely any irritation.

This relief lasted hours, which meant I wasn’t itching and scratching these bites. And because of this, I had no scarring or long-term appearance of bites remaining on my skin!

Vitamin E is also present as an antioxidant in many ingredients in Waters Mist, which aids in wound healing and protection of the skin barrier. These ingredients include sunflower seed oil, soybean oil, jojoba oil, aloe leaf juice, chamomile leaf extract, lavender oil, and lemongrass oil.

Waters Mist moisturizes and protects the skin, and also reduces inflammation and pain. It aids in wound healing, and even has ingredients that have been researched for their use in insect repellents!

Lavender oil and Cinnamon leaf oil both contain compounds which act as bug repellents on the skin. Combined with the other ingredients in Waters Mist, they absorb as an oil into the skin which provides long-lasting relief from pesky biting insects.

Waters Mist also has properties that reduce pain, itchiness, inflammation, and redness associated with bug bites. It eliminates itch and provides lasting moisture to the skin. This prevents scars from forming once these bites have healed.
